What is Competitive Gymnastics?

Competitive Gymnastics can be competing in any of the four codes of gymnastics we have at the gym club.  We have Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)  Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Trampoline (TRA) and Sports Aerobics (AER)

Candidates for our competitive artistic, trampoline and aerobics are selected from our recreational classes by invitation from our own coaches and talent spotters.  These gymnasts will be entered into our pre competitive stream for a period before competing as a level.

Our WAG, MAG, TRA and AER training programmes are approved by our affiliated body - Gym Sports NZ and planned and implemented by our dedicated coaches.  Each level will work a set amount of hours each week with the higher levels training for longer.

Our Aerobics and trampoline are our newest codes of gymnastics competing for the first time in 2008 for Aerobics at the National Championships and Trampoline in 2009 at the Gisborne Central Island Championships.

Competitive Gymnasts train all year round, with a short break at Christmas working towards the competition season which runs from May to September culminating in the Junior and Senior NZ National Championships at the end of September.  Gymnasts must be of Level 4 and above for WAG and MAG and achieve high enough scores throughout the year in order to be selected for Nationals.  Aerobics and Trampoline are based on scores only.  We have an increasing amount of gymnasts representing the Boys & Girls Gym Club from each code.
